Nicholson’s Pale Ale celebrates 5th anniversary

This week St Austell Brewery is celebrating five years of brewing Nicholson’s Pale Ale, and every Nicholson’s pub across the country which sells the beer will be visited on Wednesday 10th May.

Staff from St Austell Brewery will be going to 78 Nicholson’s pubs from Belfast to Birmingham, Glasgow to Canterbury, and across central London, to celebrate five years since it was first launched.

The 4% ABV beer, which is brewed exclusively by Cornwall-based St Austell Brewery, is a classic style English pale ale and is made with Cornish water and barley and the very best hops from around the world. The beer has been a permanent fixture in all Nicholson’s pubs since it was first served five years ago and more than 4.6 million pints of Nicholson’s Pale Ale have been sold.

To mark the milestone, a new 5% ABV Nicholson’s celebration pale ale has also been launched and will be available in all Nicholson’s pubs for a limited time only during the fifth birthday celebrations.

Nicholson’s team of Senior Cask Masters, a dedicated team of beer lovers and cask ale experts, visited the brewery in April and helped brew the new beer. The beer will also be available in 500ml bottles to take-home – the first time a Nicholson’s branded beer has been bottled.

Will Prideaux, Operations Director for Nicholson’s, said: “Drawing on over 160 years of experience, St Austell Brewery was selected to lovingly craft and brew Nicholson’s Pale Ale in its state-of-the-art machinery at its brewery in Cornwall.

“At the heart of our ethos is serving the very best British ales at a consistently high quality and Nicholson’s Pale Ale is no exception. Five years later it remains a staple of every Nicholson’s pub across the country.”

Will added: “Seeing our Pale Ale in bottles for the very first time is really exciting as our guests will now be able to purchase our much-loved NPA in a gift set for their friends and family to enjoy or to take home themselves.”

Roger Ryman, St Austell Brewery’s Head Brewer, who will also be spending the day visiting his share of Nicholson’s pubs on the day of the celebration, said: “Whilst the beer industry has moved on significantly in the five years since we first started brewing for Nicholson’s, great cask beer is unsurpassable and an integral part of British pub culture. Nicholson’s Pale Ale is a quality classic English style ale which is timeless and so it was only right to give its fifth birthday a worthy celebration across the country.”

Roger added: “Just like St Austell Brewery, Nicholson’s has a rich heritage to be proud of and the team are very much looking forward to visiting every pub to help celebrate five great years of Nicholson’s Pale Ale.”
