Mitchells & Butlers announces transatlantic brewing collaboration

Mitchells & Butlers is excited to announce a new transatlantic brewing collaboration with Rudgate Brewery and Hogshead Brewery.

The partnership will see Hogshead Etta’s Ale from Denver, Colorado brewed at Rudgate Brewery, York and exclusively served in a number of M&B pubs this Spring.

The collaboration came about due to the success of the Hogshead range in the US, where the brewery has built a reputation for developing a variety of cask ales with an emphasis on English Ale – all brewed locally in Colorado.  Mitchells & Butlers identified the taste profile of Etta’s Ale as a potential complement to its cask ale range and by teaming up with Rudgate Brewery, to share its quarter of a century of brewing knowledge, has enabled the ale to cross the pond for the first time.

Etta’s Ale unites the very best of US and UK brewing.  Hogshead Brewer Jake Gardner set out to concoct something special for his bride and wedding guests. It grew from a limited release to a consistent offering. The Ale is a beautiful mutt, where American dry-hopping meets best bitter. Light, yet shockingly heavenly aromatic. Brewed for a Blonde and named after her dog. Etta will wow you in ways a pure-bred ever could!

Drinks procurement manager, Ben Lockwood said: “This collaboration has been 18 months in the making and we’re really excited to finally have Hogshead Ettas Ale, brewed at Rudgate Brewery, pouring in our pubs. The popularity and growth of Hogshead’s range of cask ales in Denver is growing from strength to strength and I’m sure our beer loving guests will adopt this as a firm favourite over the Spring.”

According to British-born Hogshead Brewery Owner and Head Brewer, Stephen Kirby: “Nine British Breweries came to Hogshead in 2013 for the brewery’s cask ale festival, including Rudgate Brewery. Out of that, and at the urging of a representative of the British Food and Beverage Industry, Hogshead and Rudgate collaborated to create Atlantic Crossing a Pale Ale. Based on that initial success, we are now confident that Etta’s Ale will be a standout customer favourite in the Mitchells & Butlers line up.”

Etta’s Ale is available from now until early June in Nicholson’s pubs, Ember Inns, Vintage Inns and Castle pubs.

The Hogshead/Rudgate Etta Ale will be one of a number of new ales in the Mitchells & Butlers Spring seasonal range – which also include Hover Honey IPA, Serne Half Mast, Fyne Jarl and Moonstone IPA.
