Brewers of Nottingham Collective

The strength of Nottinghamshire’s brewery offer is being brought to the county’s attention, thanks to the newly formed Brewers of Nottinghamshire collective. The Brewers of Nottinghamshire currently brings together 12 of Nottinghamshire’s leading breweries, and aims to raise the profile of Nottinghamshire’s impressive real ale and craft beer offer. The inspiration behind the group, initiated by Experience Nottinghamshire, is to create a joined-up approach to marketing the beer offer in the county, to raise the profile nationally and internationally of Nottinghamshire as a location for the best in beer and brewing.

Keith Laird, Head of Business Development at Experience Nottinghamshire, said:

“Food and drink tourism is growing in popularity, and Nottinghamshire benefits from a very rich beer and brewing offer, making it the ideal destination for beer lovers from around the UK and the world.”

Experience Nottinghamshire is creating a marketing activity calendar which will target events across the country to showcase the local produce and the city as a destination for drinkers.

Members of the group include:

  • Blue Monkey Brewery
  • Castle Rock Brewery
  • Flipside Brewery
  • Lincoln Green Brewing Co
  • Navigation Brewery
  • Nottingham Brewery
  • Pheasantry Brewery
  • Reality Brewery
  • Shipstone’s
  • Springhead Brewery
  • Totally Brewed
  • Welbeck Abbey Brewery

A week of celebrations in October mark the official launch of the group, kicking off with a presence at Springhead Brewery’s Oktoberfest in Laneham near Retford on Sunday 5 October, where drinkers will have a chance to meet Nottinghamshire’s best brewers and sample fine craft beer and real ales from across the county, as well as imported directly from the Bavarian Oktoberfests.

On Wednesday 8 October, the Brewers of Nottinghamshire group launch a new guide to Nottingham’s pubs and bars, in conjunction with Nottingham City Council and Experience Nottinghamshire, at a special event at the Robin Hood Beer & Cider Festival at Nottingham Castle.

A new architectural pub trail for Nottingham is also launched at this event, which is being produced in partnership by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Castle Rock Brewery and Experience Nottinghamshire.

Councillor Alex Ball is a supporter of the project, and said it was a great opportunity to raise the profile of Nottingham:

“We’re privileged to have such an excellent array of beer brewers in Nottinghamshire, and I’m thrilled this project is going ahead. It’s the perfect vehicle to help fly the flag of Nottingham as a must-visit beer destination.”

Dom Flynn from Navigation Brewery, said he welcomed the initiative:

“There is currently a huge shift towards people choosing real ale and craft beer, and it makes sense for us to work together and promote Nottinghamshire as a beer destination to a wider audience.”

As the group becomes established, plans are in the pipeline to have a presence at national beer events, and to create a dedicated marketing activity calendar to raise the profile of Nottingham as a beer destination.

The website www.experiencenottinghamshire.com/beer contains lists of pubs serving cask ale as well as some historical details about these pubs, plus information on breweries and brewery tours and the pub trail.
