The Advisory Board of The Guild of Beer Sommeliers have put together an online multiple-choice test that will give you a good indication of areas and topics to develop ahead of the full Beer Sommelier Assessment Day.
What format is the test in?
It is a multiple-choice test designed to test your knowledge prior to the in-person Beer Sommelier Assessment Day.
The questions are all based on information you should know prior to the assessment.
The test gives you the opportunity to test your knowledge and identify areas where further development is required.
You will be asked to answer 60 multiple choice questions; only one answer is correct.
What you will be tested on?
The test is made up of questions covering:
- The brewing process
- Beer styles
- Beer service
- ‘Off’ flavours
- Beer and food pairing principles
How long will the assessment take?
The test is not timed but takes most users about an hour to complete.
When you have answered a question and pressed submit, you will be taken automatically to the next page.
You can pause your learning and return to it at a later time.
How will I know if I have passed?
You will find out what your score is at the end of the test.
If you have answered any questions incorrectly, they will be identified at the end of the test.
The pass mark is 80%.
You can take the test three times in a twelve-month period.
Each time you retake the test you will be presented with a different set of questions. So even if you pass first time, it’s a great way of testing your knowledge.
Is the online multiple-choice test compulsory to become a Beer Sommelier?
Definitely not. The online multiple-choice test is an optional extra that we have put together for you as a resource.
You might want to consider using this resource to test yourself in readiness for your assessment and check your level of knowledge. It gives you a good indication of areas and topics which you might need to develop ahead of the assessment.
How much does the pre-assessment online test cost?
The assessment costs £25.00 (inc. VAT)
How do I access the pre-assessment?
You will need a device that has access to the internet (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) to take the course.
If you purchase the pre-assessment online, your order will be processed the next working day.
You will be asked to provide your first name, last name, and email address, as we will need these to enrol you onto our learning platform.
You will receive an email with a ‘one-time click’ link to the online course. You will then be asked to create a password to return to your progress at any time.
