Guild of Beer Sommeliers: Beer and Food Pairing Course

By the end of the course, learners will:

  • Know the benefits of pairing beer with food
  • Understand food and beverage matching in a historical, social, and political context
  • Understand the perception of flavour
  • Understand principal taste interactions between beer and food
  • Understand the impact of intensity when matching beer and food
  • Understand the concept of the three ‘C’s (Complement, Contrast, Cut)
  • Be able to apply and explain beer matching principles with a range of food
  • Know how to plan and deliver a beer and food pairing event

A workbook and supporting documents will be provided during the course.

Is any pre-requisite learning required?

No.

Who is the course for?

Hospitality and brewing sector employees, chefs, food technicians, beer and food enthusiasts.

N.B. All applicants for Beer Sommelier assessment are required to pass the Beer and Food Pairing course.

How is it assessed?

20 question multiple choice test; pass mark 80% [16 out of 20].

What certification do I get?

On passing the test, learners will receive the Guild of Beer Sommeliers Beer and Food Pairing Certificate.
